Clinical Care at UZ Brussel
Emergency Care in the Hospital
At UZ Brussel, the Emergency Department is ready to provide urgent care 24/7. The core of our emergency care is focused on the following principles:
- Personalised Care: The patient is at the centre, actively involved in their care process.
- Efficient Coordination: We ensure smooth patient flow and coordinate admissions and referrals for both adult and pediatric patients across various disciplines.
- Somatic and Mental Health Care: Both physical and mental health are given attention, with diversity and multiculturalism considered as valuable assets.
- Always Ready: Our service is available 24/7 for medical emergencies and resuscitations, both inside and outside the hospital.
- Crisis Management: We play a key role in developing and implementing internal emergency plans.
- Flexible Organisation: Our team can quickly transition to complex tertiary care without interrupting our secondary care responsibilities.

Pre-hospital Care
Our expertise extends beyond the hospital. Through our EMT and Paramedic intervention team, we provide urgent medical assistance outside the hospital, in collaboration with the 112 emergency centre.
Interhospital Care Provision
We support other hospitals by transporting critical patients between facilities. We do this with a high-tech ambulance and a specialised transport team, supported by internal and external medical experts.
Disaster Medicine
Our emergency department provides medical assistance in disaster and crisis situations, both inside and outside the hospital. We send out coordinating teams and deploy additional medical resources where needed. Preventive medical support at large events is also part of our service offering.
