Emergency Department at UZ Brussels
At the Emergency Department of UZ Brussels, we are ready around the clock, 24/7, to care for patients in urgent need. Our approach goes beyond rapid intervention: we provide expert, empathetic, and coordinated care, tailored to each individual patient.

Our core principles
- Personalized care: The patient is at the center and actively involved in their care process.
- Efficient coordination: We ensure smooth patient flow and manage admissions and transfers for both adults and children, in collaboration with all relevant disciplines.
- Somatic and mental health care: We address both physical and mental well-being, embracing diversity and multiculturalism as a strength.
- Always available: 24/7 coverage for medical emergencies and resuscitations, both inside and outside the hospital.
- Crisis management: We play an active role in developing and implementing internal emergency plans.
- Flexible organization: Our team can quickly transition to complex tertiary care without interrupting our secondary care responsibilities.
Prehospital care
Our expertise begins before the hospital doors. Through our MUG and PIT teams, we provide urgent medical care on site, in close coordination with the 112 emergency call center.
Interhospital patient transport
For critically ill patients requiring transfer between hospitals, we operate high-tech ambulances with a specialized transport team, supported by both internal and external medical experts to ensure safe and stable patient transfers.
Disaster medicine
Our department also plays a key role in disaster and crisis situations. We provide on-site medical support, deploy coordinating teams, and mobilize additional capacity when needed. At large events, we also provide preventive medical coverage to safeguard participants and visitors.
